South Salish Friends Worship Group
South Salish Friends Worship Group, is a Quaker group in the unprogrammed tradition of Friends, under the care of Tacoma Friends Meeting. We are located in Olympia, WA at the bottom of what settlers called Puget Sound - Mudd Bay. The native people who have lived here from time immemorial have called it the Salish Sea.
We have discovered that we as a group share a heightened sense of spirituality in nature and the outdoors. Thus when weather permits we meet outdoors for worship - often in Squaxin park among the 2nd growth trees. We also hold other common Quaker beliefs -like that of God in everyone or testimonies:
* In Peace thru Nonviolence
* In Simplicity so material things do not distract us from the spiritual
* In Equality because we are all God's children
* In Integrity because we are committed to living in truth
* In Earth Stewardship because this is our only home
* In Community and fellowship because we are bound together in spirit
South Salish meets most Sundays at 10:00 am in the following pattern:
1st Sunday - we meet in a members household followed by a Potluck Please contact our contact person Jane Sherman to learn the location this month
2nd Sunday - in good weather we meet in Squaxin Park on the East side of the road. At the fork that goes left to the other side of the road or right past the rose garden, so right past the rose garden, the maintenance sheds and follow the road as it curves. at the top of the hill is an unmarked shelter with picnic tables and you should see us forming a circle. (or call Jane to have someone meet you at the Rose Garden and guide you there.)
In colder weather we meet in our rental space. Contact Jane.
3rd Sunday - we meet online and do worship sharing with Queries.
4th (and 5th Sunday) We again meet in Squaxin Park or during the winter in our rental property.
